ML Program & Resources

Pennsauken Public Schools provides a High-Intensity English Language Program for students who are new to English. Students are tested when they enter school by qualified ELL teachers. Based on the student’s test outcome, he/she is placed in the appropriate classroom.

There are additional supports in place to help ELL students grow in language development. An extended-day program offers ELL students additional opportunities to strengthen their academic skills in language arts and mathematics.

ACCESS Testing

W-APT stands for the WIDA-ACCESS Placement Test, an English language proficiency "screening" test given to incoming students who may be designated as English language learners. It assists educators with programmatic placement decisions such as identification and placement of ELLs. The W-APT is one component of WIDA's comprehensive assessment system.

Test forms are divided into five grade-level clusters:

Kindergarten
Grades 1-2
Grades 3-5
Grades 6-8
Grades 9-12.

Each form of the test assesses the four language domains of Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing.

Family Engagement

Adult ML Classes

The goal of the adult ELL class is to assist parents in developing the English language skills necessary to participate more fully in their families’ education and in society in general.

ELL parents have an opportunity to attend adult ELL evening and weekend classes. Classes are taught by certified ELL teachers. They are open to Pennsauken parents/guardians and Pennsauken Public School employees. A parent/guardian does NOT need to have a student in the ESL classes to attend.
